Story & Atmosphere
Nestled in the heart of Glendale, Arizona, Angelina's Fry Bread offers a heartfelt homage to a beloved Native American tradition with a modern twist. This unassuming spot at 5154 W Olive Ave serves fry bread that strikes the perfect balance—crispy on the edges, soft and fluffy inside, a true testament to homestyle comfort food elevated to culinary art. From the very first bite, you recognize this is not just any fry bread. The bread itself sings, carrying that nostalgic warmth that echoes family recipes passed through generations.
The menu shines brightest with their open-faced fry breads, especially the green chili chicken and red chili varieties. These dishes showcase a robust interplay of fresh, vibrant sauces and tender, savory toppings that create layered, complex flavors without overwhelming the palate. The green chili chicken fry bread is a favorite among locals, warming and spicy yet balanced, while the red chili version delivers a comforting richness that invites pause and appreciation.
Complementing the entrées are the generous portions of fresh chips paired with an array of salsas—three distinct flavors and a refreshing horchata to cleanse and intrigue the palate. Customers repeatedly praise the freshness and quality, particularly of the taco salad served in handmade fresh fry bread bowls. Unlike anywhere else in town, Angelina's ensures these bowls arrive crisp and never stale, proving attention to detail in every aspect.
What resonates most is the authenticity and soul behind the food. Diners like Brad Slone share how eating here evokes profound childhood memories and genuine delight, experiences that transcend mere dining. Angelina's blends cultural heritage with a vibrant Glendale food scene, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking comfort food steeped in tradition yet delivered with fresh enthusiasm and care.
Service and atmosphere further elevate the experience. Despite its modest size, the restaurant offers a welcoming space to savor each dish slowly, making every meal feel like a shared celebration. The consistency in quality and flavor, praised by a diverse array of patrons, underscores Angelina's role as a jewel in the ethnic cuisine corridor of central Glendale.
In essence, Angelina’s Fry Bread is more than a place to eat—it’s a culinary bridge connecting past and present through every fluffy, golden bite. For those craving authentic fry bread crafted with passion and precision, this is the destination that satisfies both hunger and heart.
“ Outstanding green chili chicken fry bread. The bowl of chips deserve their own accolades! So good! I'm so glad I live in the central Glendale corridor where all the great ethnic cuisine restaurants are located. Literally every type of cuisine exists in a square 4 mile radius. Mmm ”
“ I ordered the Open faced supreme, it was big. Come hungry. Chips and salsa. 3 salsa flavors and a horchata. ”
“ Their red chili open face frybread and taco salads were both excellent. This is the only place in town that I know of that sells Taco Salads with fresh bowls made to your order. I like the ground beef Taco Salad. Usually when I order a taco salad I am disappointed becase the shell bowl is stale. Here it is always fresh so this is the only place I ever buy Taco Salad these days. They are delicious. ”
“ The restaurant itself isn’t that big inside, but there is a decent amount of sitting space. My mom and I ordered an open face supreme fry bread which we were able to split in half and still be full. (We got the chicken with the red and green sauce) and it was soooo good!! The fry bread was fresh and soft! I wasn’t too crazy over the green sauce but the red was great. They also give you chips and a few salsas to try so that’s a plus and they have a ton of old fashion candies you can buy which is cool! And the staff were all very courteous! ”
“ I'm a white boy with a Navajo family, her mom has made fry bread before as well as her grandma and yet this was the greatest fry bread I've had in my life and it'll be hard to pass up. I almost cried, no exaggeration after eating a few bites of their regular Open face fry bread. It was such a simple pleasure that genuinely reminded me of childhood snacks and dinners and that perfection can be simple. My fiancée got the Pozole and she said it was incredible and from what I tasted, I agree. I highly recommend this small local beauty, I used to work nearby and always wanted to try it and now I'm glad I have. ”
